Kalyazin, st. Karl Marx

August 29, 1609 the Russian army led by M. V. Skopin-Shuisky won the decisive victory over the Polish-Lithuanian invaders in the battle at the Konstantinovskoe field near the Zhabna river. In 2009 to the 400th anniversary of this victory the monument to the outstanding Russian commander Mikhail Vasilievich Skopin-Shuisky (the sculptor E. A. Antonov) was opened near the Ascension Church. Annually at the anniversary of the battle historical clubs from all over Russia gather in Kalyazin to conduct their eye-catching battle.
