The beautiful and well-cared-for Church of the Prophet Elijah (llyinskaya) meets the guests at the entrance to Staritsa from the Tver side. Services were conducted in it since 1784, from the moment of consecration of side altar of St. Catherine. The church is named llyinskaya the second side altar of the Prophet Eliah (1804). The church is built in the style that now is called Russian, or provincial Baroque. It seems that its double-height rotunda is crowned with five domes, but there is only one dome above the rotunda, and four more crown the round turrets.
